AGS Update: Extended Gates Saturday & Sunday For Both WWT and NCT

June 24, 2016

In an effort to help clear some of the congestion in the Port of Charleston that has resulted from implementation of the Advanced Gate System, the South Carolina Ports Authority will offer extended gates this weekend at both Wando Welch Terminal and North Charleston Terminal.

Both terminals will be fully-staffed for dry and reefer cargo for all hours noted, so all customers, motor carriers and their professional drivers are strongly encouraged to use the Saturday and Sunday gate hours to the maximum extent possible.

Saturday, June 25:

  • WWT & NCT gates will be open 6:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
  • Last truck through the security gate at 3:30 PM.
  • Full reefer operations will be offered.

Sunday, June 26:

  • WWT & NCT gates will be open 6:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
  • Last truck through the security gate at 12:30 PM.
  • Full reefer operations will be offered.

Access to Long Point Road from I-526 and traffic management in the area is being controlled by Mount Pleasant Police Department. To assist local traffic and in the interest of safety, trucks are currently staging along the approach to the off-ramp and truck flow is being metered onto Long Point. As cargo keeps moving at the gate, trucks continue to flow to the terminal.

Ensuring all drivers have valid Gate Codes will also assist with reducing congestion.

Operations reports that the Wando Welch Terminal is moving well and by 0900 had completed >600 moves with another 225 inside the gates.

We sincerely regret the impacts that AGS implementation has had on our customers, truckers, service providers and neighbors --- but we continue to work through this implementation and are putting every effort and resource into it.
