Charleston, SC - The South Carolina State Ports Authority today requested qualifications from developers interested in buying 1,300 acres of property on Daniel Island in Charleston Harbor.
The Request for Qualifications (RFQ) will be advertised in national and regional media and is currently posted on the Ports Authority's web site (link below).
Responses to the RFQ are due by mid-May, which will be followed by a formal Request for Proposals (RFP). The selection of a buyer could be finalized by October.
The property sits on the southern tip of the island in the City of Charleston and in Berkeley County, between the Wando and Cooper Rivers.
The Ports Authority acquired the land in the 1990s and intended to develop it as a container terminal. In 2002, that project was abandoned in favor of port expansion on the former Charleston Naval Complex.
